In 1968 Bluewater Yacht Sales opened its doors. The vision came from Chris Hall, Hampton Roads native, and if any could make the claim, native of the “blue water” as well. Forty years later, what began as an offshoot of a life that revolved around water is now the hub of an enterprise that spans the Mid-Atlantic region from Maryland to the Carolinas. With a service operation headed by Earle Hall and a sales force headed by Jud Black, the three have dedicated a lifetime of experience to bringing the best that the sportfishing industry has produced under one roof—or rather four—at this point.

Between them they have built an operation dedicated to serving the needs of both the hard core sport-fishing enthusiast and the eager newcomer. With a focus on excellence and intimate knowledge of the demanding nature of offshore fishing, Bluewater has become the source for the knowledge and expertise to both put you in the right boat, and rig and service it to the most exacting specifications.

Besides an extraordinary commitment to helping make that “dream boat” a reality, they actually have what it takes. With one of the largest quality brokerage and used boat inventories ranging from 20 to 120 feet, Bluewater also has some of the most knowledgeable and experienced sales brokers on the East coast. They listen, hear your needs, and can find and deliver the boat that will make it all come together. And when you are ready for a brand new sportfishing machine, they know where to go to get the best.

Not satisfied with “it’ll get the job done”, Bluewater was particularly selective when it came to the lines they were willing to represent. Having pretty much “been there, done that” on any thing that would get them to the Gulf Stream, Chris, Earle and Jud knew what they wanted, and wanted to deliver to their customers. From 23 to 32 feet, Regulator Boats has what it takes. A soft ride in a solid hull—a fisherman’s fantasy in detail and layout—Regulator’s center consoles and new express set the standards across the board in their class.

And as for the battlewagons, one company consistently stands out. Only four years older, Viking Yachts has a history that mirrors Bluewater’s own. Family owned, designed and built by fishermen, for fishermen, Viking lives their mantra—to build a better boat everyday. This year saw the release of three new models—sporting an advanced hull design, aggressively raked bow, sweeping sheer and the signature mezzanine—the latest in a long line of chart-toppers and tournament winners. Bluewater recognized the perfect match long ago and never looked back.

The Vikings, Regulators and numerous brokerage offerings lie pampered amidst the stunning backdrop of what PassageMaker Magazine dubbed, “the jewel of the southern Chesapeake.” Conceived to be both a destination and a gorgeous, yet comfortable home to the yachts to which they cater, Bluewater Yachting Center sits just inside the inlet leading to downtown Hampton.

Protected and convenient to the mouth of the Chesapeake, Bluewater holds a unique position in the regions best sportfishing traditions. Gracefully situated neighboring elegant amenities the first of the state of the art service yards overseen by Earle Hall. Here magic is made and “technical” has become something of an art-form.

Building on years of hard-core sportfishing, boat-racing and tinkering, nothing less than “superior” is acceptable for the technicians and craftsman Earle has lured to Bluewater’s yacht yards. Obsessively focused on delivering the best, Bluewater can do it all, from rigging
countless tournament machines, to customizing every detail for the hard-core fisherman or cruiser. To compliment this rich legacy of rigging and service, Bluewater partnered with another operation in the Outer Banks to create a sister yard, Bluewater Outer Banks Yacht Service. The facility boasts the tallest building in Dare County, capable of building from the ground up, or housing a fully towered sportfish and painting her from top to bottom.
